Invitation

Dear Members of the International Society for the History of Medicine,

On September 6, 2017, an executive meeting of the ISHM was held in Beijing, China, and the capital city of Latvia, Riga, was approved to host the 47th Congress of the International Society for the History of Medicine from August 24 to 28, 2020. 

It is a great honour for the Latvian Association of Medical Historians to host the centennial congress of the ISHM, 100 years after the first one, 1st Congress on the History of Healing, which took place in Antwerp, Belgium, in August 1920.

Latvia has long-standing traditions in researching the history of medicine and a substantial medical community dedicated to the history of profession. And more over the Pauls Stradins Museum of the History of Medicine is one of the largest museums of its type in the world, offering a unique experience for medical students and the public at large when it comes to the history of medicine and health.

Due to Covid-19 the Congress is now postponed to 23–27 August 2021.
