General

ISHM sponsors the 1st Summer School on the history of medicine, organised by Rīga Stradiņš University and hosted by Pauls Stradiņš Museum of History of Medicine. Junior scholars and students of all backgrounds interested to history of medicine are invited to pre-sent their ongoing work, receive feedback, establish valuable academic contacts within ISHM and explore the medical heritage sites specific to the regional area where the course is held.

The course includes workshops, masterclasses and practical exercises in a medical museum environment and a day trip to Vilnius University collections, Lithuania.

The Summer School course will take place from August 19 to 25, 2020.

Attending students are expected to report their scientific results to the ISHM congress delegates on 25th August, after the Opening ceremony of the 47th ISHM Congress. Students are invited to extend the stay until the August 28 to attend ISHM congress scientific events. There will be NO TUITION FEE as the Summer School received a generous sponsorship by Roche Company specifically to cover the fees of 12 selected students. Roche Sponsorship covers all Summer School activities (including catered lunches, museum tours and 1day trip to Vilnius, Lithuania) and free participation in the scientific programme of the 47 ISHM Congress in Riga from August 24 till August 28, 2020.
